Snowy Owl & Transmitter

Snowy Owl & Transmitter

Snowy Owl by Phil Brown

The Snowy Owl released by Norm Smith during an event at Parker River NWR last winter [’13/’14] has come back south into cellphone range which means it survived the summer, and all the data is coming in from her transmitter!

This is only the second Snowy Owl fitted with a transmitter last winter that has come within cellphone range this winter (the data is transferred from the transmitter to cell towers).

It’s very interesting to see where these owls spend the summer and to see the flight paths these birds take.
