Refuge Status: As of June 4, 2020, access to the Refuge is as follows:


  • Refuge road is open to motor vehicles thru Hellcat;
  • lower (gravel) road is closed.
  • Stage Island Trail, Pines Trail, and Boardwalk 5
  • Limited restroom facilities [bring your own hand sanitizer] at Sub-Headquarters and Hellcat Parking Lots.



  • Visitor Center
  • There is currently no access to the beach from the Refuge. (Lot 1 boardwalk is CLOSED.)
