Since 2002, Newburyport Birders has guided thousands of bird enthusiasts in Essex County.  We provide the best, small group experience with our friendly, top-notch guides. With Newburyport Birders, you can explore the region’s wildlife-rich salt marshes, mudflats, rivers, bays and coastal waters; all are rich in avian life.

Expert Leaders

Our leaders will help you observe, appreciate & identify birds. We’ll get you good views of birds, using high-quality scopes. We take the time to share our knowledge, are patient & inclusive with our participants.  Loaner binoculars are available.

SUE MCGRATH

Sue is a Newburyport resident. She’s the founder and program designer at Newburyport Birders which offers birdwatching classes, guided, private tours and educational programs. She has been observing birds for over thirty years and remains fascinated by bird behavior.

PAULA MCFARLAND

Paula McFarland has been birding for eight years, focusing most of her birding time at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport and just over the border at her own “refuge” in Newton, NH. She admits “I’m almost always birding.”
